Mindy is a writer who lives in the Pacific Northwest who offers

Mindy's Background:

Mindy holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College. She is a featured writer in the 2010 Bylines Writer Desk Calendar. http://www.bylinescalendar.com/

Some of Mindy's published writing includes: "I Believe" an audio story which can be downloaded at Sniplits www.sniplits.com, "What is that Thing: Rachel the Pike Place Market Pig" and "Ghost in the Lighthouse" both published with the Washington State History Museum's e-zine, Columbia Kids. Mindy has published articles in the 2008 and 2009 Children's Writer Guidebook, along with a personal essay in, My First Year in the Classroom: 50 Stories, published by Adams Media. She was a winner in the Seattle Romance Writer's Early Bird Pitch Contest for her adult paranormal romance pitch, "Love's Last Whisper,"

Mindy facilitates a poetry workshops with teens at Denney Youth Juvenile Justice Center. She is the co-editor of four anthologies written by the youth entitled, Call It Courage, I Am From, Because I Wanted to Be Loved, and Please Brave Me, Don't Cry. She also teaches distance learning classes to educators in writing for children and children's lit with SPU Spiral's Distance Learning Program. 

Mindy has received writing fellowships and scholarships from Chautauqua Highlights Summer Writing Workshop and The National Book Foundation Summer Writing Camp. She was awarded the Hobson Dream Foundation People's Choice Award Grant, the Blanche Miller Trust Foundation Grant and a BECU School Grant for workshops with teens at Denney Detention Center and nominated for the Jefferson Award for her creative writing work with youth in the community.
